The Place to Eat

Nicha’s Comida Mexicana

This month, I will let you in on the place that I eat at least two or three times a week. More if I'm not working. Nicha's Comida Mexicana has two locations. The one that I venture to is located on the south side of town across from the old Mission Drive Inn and down the street from Mission San Jose. I have never had a bad dish there, and I've had everything on the menu. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner! You cannot go wrong. Breakfast is great. My mother and I eat at Nicha’s every Saturday morning and have never spent more than $12 to $15. My all time favorite is the chilaquiles. Fried corn tortilla strips mixed with egg and their pico de gallo. Their pico is made fresh daily and is loaded with fresh Serrano chilies. Mom is more of a pork chop and eggs kind of lady. Two eggs, any style, two pork chops and a side of beans and papas a la mexicana.

For lunch, I tend to go non-Mexican. Now don't get me wrong. I love their enchiladas and tacos. But they do a hamburger to die for. I was turned on to the burger by a high school friend’s daughter. Marissa, mija, this is for you. This burger is so simple, it's silly. What makes it fabulous is the toasted buns and the fact that the patty is handmade. They also have a great chicken fried chicken. If the brisket plate is on the lunch special board, get it! There is so much food on this plate that I have taken a to go box home every time I order it.

For dinner, I like to start off with an appetizer. Sometimes just a simple bean and cheese order of nachos will do it. But, recently, my friend and I decided to order the shrimp quesadilla. Perfectly toasted tortillas with cheese, pico and shrimp fajitas. A must try. Some other must trys are the puffy tacos. They are some of the best I have ever eaten. If you think you can handle it, try the burrito or the chimichanga. In two words, huge and delicious. The enchiladas verde and molé are some other fine dines. Visit their website, www.nichas.com, for more info.

The other location just off 410 and Exchange parkway has the same menu, but they offer a full bar. Can you say happy hour? OMG! The margaritas, at either location are a hit! They also serve dessert. But to be honest with you, I've only had them once or twice. The portions are so big, that I rarely have room for dessert.

Now it's your turn. You have been reading my picks for over a year. I want to hear from you. What are some places that you like to go? Where’s your favorite burger, taco, pancake, or steak? Let me know. Send your picks to crisreviews@gmail.com. Maybe we'll have a bite together.

Eat well, be well.
