“The Ash” by Suzy La Follette

“The Ash”
The first gift I ever gave you was an ashtray.
Remember, how you used to smoke?
It's a pink ashtray-
a flashback from the 60's-maybe,
V-shaped with a stand.
You broke it.
Back when we used to smoke a lot of weed.
Or what I mean is,
I broke it,
back when I used to
smoke a lot of
weed.
You used to smoke cigarettes when I met you.
I thought it was cute,
because we had just met
and those things that seem cute at first
are the same things that will break up a couple later
-or in this case- just kill you slowly.
You would take a drag,
then cock your head to the side,
purse your lips in a tiny O and release.
Drag-cock -O- release.
Drag-cock- O-release.
It was sensual.
