It's NOT a Tourist Trap! Q on the Riverwalk Delights the Senses

In recent months, I’ve had several visitors from out of town. They all want to see the Riverwalk, the Alamo, and all that downtown has to offer. What I’ve discovered is that we have some great places to eat! A lot of people say that eating or even just visiting downtown is a tourist trap. Well I’ve got news for them. It’s not! REALLY! The prices are reasonable, the food is great, and the service is top notch. So I’ve decided to reintroduce you all to some of the great places to dine. Let us all be tourists in our own town. Who’s with me?
I want to start out by saying Happy 30th Anniversary to the Hyatt Regency and Happy 1st Anniversary to Q on the Riverwalk. I can assure you that the timing of this article is purely coincidental. And a big thank you to the staff at Q. Chef Danny, thanks for the tour. Executive Chef David, thanks for the awesome food. To our gracious hostess Dallas, server Jill and Banquet director Eric, congratulations on the promotions. Super big thank you and hugs to Marketing guru Kara Marshal!
Now on to the food! I had been planning to review Q for months, but scheduling and timing kept pushing it back. But all things happen for a reason. I get to wish Q Happy Birthday with a review. I invited ignite photographer, Julian Ledezma, to dine with me and get his take on Q. We were given a tour of the buffet by Chef Danny. He explained that the daily buffet (Monday - Friday) is a world tour of BBQ. Every day features a different region of the world. We went on Tuesday, when Europe was the featured region. The European influence is evident with grilled brats over sauerkraut, BBQ chicken with Mediterranean herbs and even a pasta dish. Each day is a different influence. Monday - North America. Wednesday - Middle East and Asia. Thursday - Mexico and Central America. Friday - Coastal fish. The buffet Tuesday also included three kinds of salads with all the fixings, tomato bisque, fresh bread, a dessert bar and deviled eggs. Let me stop here. We have all had deviled eggs, but these took it to the "Nth" level. BEST EVER!! Julian went back a few times. The BBQ chicken was some of the most tender and moist chicken I have ever had off a grill. As Julian and I shared the food on his plate, Jill sauntered over with my Q Burger. This is their signature burger, stacked high and presented with a large steak knife holding it all together. The burger consists of an 8 oz. patty, crispy onions, BBQ pork and coleslaw. I opted for the fries but their chips are made in house.
I went back a few days later to try dinner. We started out with Armadillo Poppers, which are fried jalapenos with BBQ pork and a remoulade sauce. I ordered the T-Bone, seasoned great and juicy. I have to admit, I’m a bone gnawer. My friend had the salmon, topped with honey BBQ and a corn succotash. For sides we shared the Smokin’ Mac and Jack! It’s mac and jack cheese that’s been smoked to a hot and bubbly portion of gooey goodness, served in a small cast iron pot. We also shared the “Soon to Be Famous” Baked Potato. It is a fully loaded baker with bacon, cheese and all the butter you can handle. For dessert, if you have room after all their great food, I highly recommend the chocolate cake! It’s HUGE!!
Afterwards, my friend and I enjoyed a stroll on the Riverwalk. By the way, now is the time to book all your holiday events. NOTE: I get no kick backs from the reviews I do. But I just love being downtown during the holidays. Eat well, be well!
