An Attitude of Gratitude Giving Thanks Through the Law of Attraction
November is the month when many Americans give thanks in tremendous fashion bestowing upon themselves feasts galore. At these feasts, in a multitude of homes, it is often traditional to go around the table and tell everyone what you, in particular, are thankful for that year. The normal range of this type of holiday gratitude is that of friends, family and material possessions. For example, “I'm grateful to be spending this beautiful day with family and friends." or “I'm so thankful to have my beautiful new car!” are examples of average expressions of thanks.
But what if, instead of just this Thanksgiving weekend, you filled your life with gratitude every day? That kind of “everyday gratitude” is the core of a particular belief system called the “Law of Attraction” and the basic guidelines are simple and easy to follow. Like attracts like. Positive energy and thought attracts positive energy and thought whereas the reverse is also true: negative thought and energy attract negative thought and energy.
Unsure of how this can be? Think about a time when you or someone you know “just had one of those days where everything went wrong.” The reason that day went wrong may have simply stemmed from the way you woke up that morning. What some people refer to as “waking up on the wrong side of the bed” could really be the beginning of a chain reaction of things that are all linked together by the Law of Attraction. Picture this: You wake up one morning and get out of bed and stub your toe, your next immediate thought is one of pain and anger, “G*DD?M#T!!!” You decide to get in the shower to “cool off,” but it is too late. Your day has been impeded upon by one bad thought. The next thing you know, you are running out the door late, tying your tie, slipping on a loafer while trying to shove a piece of toast down your gullet. You jump in the car only to forget your car keys and have to run back inside. You grab them and try to rejoin the rat race and head out onto the road hitting every red light on your way to work that morning. You inevitably show up late to work and you get reprimanded, or worse, fired.
That is only a far-fetched image that I hope no one has ever had to actually go through. Imagine if it could all be better before you even get out of bed. The moment you open your eyes, tell yourself how grateful you are to be able to hear the alarm blaring (there are those out there who can't hear and they themselves would be grateful for this simple thing many of us take for granted.) This starts the day off on a right note before you even tug the covers off of yourself. A simple moment of gratitude is the way to start off each and every day. When you get up, be grateful you can feel your feet on the ground, even if you stub your toe - and if you stub your toe again, maybe it is time to rearrange the furniture.
Gratitude is a basic key to living. It is as vital to our well being as shelter, water and food, and unlike those basic human needs, it is something that we can control. Having an attitude of gratitude makes one stronger, more motivated, and more in tune with our inner selves and surroundings.
Make it a point to celebrate gratitude every day instead of just a few moments each year. To quote Norman Vincent Peale (author of The Power of Positive Thinking), “Change your thoughts and you change your world.”
