Color Me Fashionable

With Christmas behind you, visions of sugar plums still lingering in your head, and the lackluster feeling you get when putting on your drab winter attire, it’s time to start thinking of 2012 as a fresh start. Time to throw out those stale fruitcakes and make way for a new color that’ll be sure to get you and your wardrobe ready for the year ahead. But not just any new color will do.
“Tangerine Tango,” dubbed as the hottest color for 2012 by the Pantone Color Institute, is a refreshing reddish orange color. Pantone has been the leader in color design for years, influencing industries from fashion runways to graphic arts. And this year is no exception.
“Sophisticated, but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”
Spring 2012 fashion shows were as bright as your local grocer’s fruit aisle, as dresses and shirts strewn on models in this citrus hue gallivanted down runways. At Tommy Hilfiger’s Men’s Show, there were Tangerine Tango jackets trimmed in greens, paisley ties accented with brown, and pants paired with red leather biker jackets. For women, over at Alice + Olivia’s Show, you could find cropped tops paired with floral pants, maxi-dresses accented with flowers and mini-dresses to suit any figure.
I know you may be thinking that it’s nearly impossible for you to rock this sudden burst of color. But there are non-apparel alternatives for introducing this zeitgeist of color into your everyday life. Why not throw on a fresh coat of nail polish or lipstick in this fresh hue? Or add a bit of panache to any room in your house with accent pillows or coat of paint to transform your humble abode to your own tropical oasis.
January is a time when we all want to make a new start, so why not start with ourselves? With so many ongoing issues in the world today, shoppers are searching for things that bring forth an emotional connection attributed to the times. So what better way to reclaim your life and the new year with a color that gives you the feel good energy boost you need to take on 2012?
