Move over Justin Bieber & Taylor Swift. Welcome to the stage local artist Mallorie!

Not only does she sing in English, Spanish and Korean, but this local phenom is super sweet. Since creating music beginning at the age of 5, Mallorie has been busy writing songs, practicing dance routines, touring and doing what she loves – making music. A native Texan, Mallorie was raised in Hebbronville, Texas, and currently calls San Antonio home. Her newest work, a Spanish album Mi Anillo, will be released October 2011. The single, Creer, off the upcoming album is available on iTunes. As we begin our interview, I am greeted by a big warm smile.

Who/What inspires you and your music?

Life inspires me to write the music I write. Everything is based on life experiences, the people in it, family, friends, relationships and other musicians… Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Elvis Presley are a few musicians that inspire me. My grandfather has been a big inspiration for my Spanish songs. My song, Love (If You Believe), was written for my cousin who passed away due to cancer. I was honored to write and sing that song for her.

Where do you see yourself 5 to 10 years from now?

Well, hopefully alive! I hope to continue to do what I’m doing. Being happy and making my music. If my music can help someone going through a hard time, that’s what makes it all worth it for me. That’s what makes my music so special. I try and help people, to be inclusive of everyone and make my music gender neutral so that everyone can relate to the songs.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I enjoy watching TV and Japanese/Korean films. Life is so busy sometimes, that I just enjoy sitting on my couch, relaxing and enjoying the moment.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

I would take my telephone, because it has all my music, my guitar, and plenty of water!

Do you wear boxers or briefs?

Briefs.

What would you like to say to the gay youth of today?

My message to gay youth of today is that it does get better. I feel really bad for the youth that commit suicide. It sucks right now, you may hit rock bottom, but the only way is up. I’ve been there… I came out my senior year of high school. It was harder than I thought, being from a small town, but I made it through and you can too.

What would you like to say to your fans?

I love them. I really do appreciate all the support they give me. It means everything to me, and it’s the reason I am doing what I am doing.
